What is Thymalin?
Thymalin is a peptide extract from calf thymus, the small gland that trains your T cells and shrinks steadily as you age. It is not a single defined molecule but a complex fraction of thymic peptides. It comes out of the Russian peptide bioregulator tradition associated with Vladimir Khavinson, and it is usually discussed alongside Epithalon, the pineal peptide from the same research program. In Russia it has a long history of clinical use; elsewhere it is a research compound with no approval.
How Thymalin works
The proposed idea is thymic restoration. As the thymus ages, thymus-dependent immunity falls off: fewer new T cells, weaker responses, more of the immune decline that comes with getting older. Thymalin is described as helping restore that thymus-dependent function, and the bioregulator theory frames these short peptides as signals that influence gene expression in specific tissues. Mechanistically this is less nailed-down than for a single-sequence drug, partly because Thymalin is a mixture rather than one characterized peptide.
What the research shows
There is genuine human data here, which sets Thymalin apart from many research peptides, but it comes with a heavy asterisk. The most cited work is a multi-year study in elderly patients where annual courses of Thymalin, alone or combined with Epithalon, were reported to lower mortality and improve immune and physiological markers over 6 to 8 years. Later lab work reported effects on hematopoietic stem cell differentiation. The problem is that most of this literature is open-label, comes from a single research group, and has not been independently replicated in the West. Take the striking mortality figures as promising but unconfirmed.
Dosage and how it is used
Russian protocols used short intramuscular injection courses, typically a handful of days repeated periodically, rather than continuous dosing. Those regimens are not standardized outside that literature, and no Western dose-finding trial exists, so any figure you see is convention rather than validated guidance.

Decades of reported Russian clinical use suggest it is generally well tolerated in the short courses studied, and no distinctive toxicity signal stands out in that literature.
