What is Hexarelin?
Hexarelin is a synthetic hexapeptide in the GHRP family and one of the most potent GH releasers of the group. What sets it apart is a second research angle: beyond growth hormone, it has been studied for direct effects on the heart. That cardiac interest, not muscle or anti-aging, is where much of its serious research lives.
How Hexarelin works
Hexarelin acts on the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) to trigger a strong pulse of GH, the same core mechanism as the other GHRPs. But it also binds a second receptor, CD36, which is expressed in heart muscle and blood-vessel cells. Research identified CD36 as the mediator of hexarelin's cardiovascular action, which is why its cardiac effects appear to be at least partly independent of GH release. That dual-receptor behavior is unusual for a GHRP.

Hexarelin is a potent GH secretagogue in humans and animals. The more distinctive body of work is cardiovascular. In animal models, hexarelin protected heart cells from ischemia-reperfusion injury and altered coronary perfusion, and studies mapped these effects to the CD36 receptor rather than to growth hormone. It is described as more chemically stable and more potent than ghrelin, which is why researchers flagged it as a candidate for cardiovascular study. That work is preclinical. There is no approved cardiac therapy here, and desensitization (a fading response with continued use) is reported more often with hexarelin than with other GHRPs.
Dosage and how it is used
There is no approved dose. Because it is potent, community protocols often cite lower amounts than other GHRPs, on the order of 100 mcg subcutaneously, and warn against running it continuously because the GH response tends to fade. Side effects and safety
As a less selective GHRP, hexarelin can raise cortisol and prolactin, and reports include water retention and tingling. The most compound-specific issue is desensitization, where repeated dosing blunts the GH response.
